Herding

Sue Jewell

Sue is a CKC Herding Judge and also an AHBA Judge. She is the CKC Herding Rep for Ontario North ( Zone 4) and a longtime member of the CKC, the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association, and Canadian & Ontario Border Collie Clubs.

Sue started herding with one of her Shelties and has never looked back! Out the window went agility & obedience, while Sue traveled extensively all over Canada & the US to take lessons and clinics with the top trainers. She has been trialing in CKC since 1998 and had the #1 ranked Advanced Dog in CKC for 2006. Her current working Sheltie, Kip, has achieved his Herding Championship and is one point from his Herding Excellent, all while working around the farm doing chores. Sue also competes with her Border Collies in field trials in between giving lessons and clinics.

Sue’s main priority in training is to teach the dog and handler how to become a good working team. She has particular strength in building confidence in a dog and enjoys training all breeds.

Randy Kelly

Randy’s experience with herding began with an instinct test he attended with his rough collie, Houston in 1994. In the fourteen years since that time, Randy has become completely engrossed in stock dog training and competition. His passion for the sport has taken him to many rural areas throughout Canada and the USA, where he has had the good fortune to build a number of long-lasting friendships while acquiring a respect for the working rancher, livestock, stock dog, and their challenges.

Randy has been giving clinics since 2001 and has attended clinics with respected clinicians including Bob Vest, Lyle Boyer, Becky Bailey, Dana Mackenzie, Kaye Harris, and Scott Glen. He competes in OBCC, ASCA, CKC, and AHBA trials throughout Canada and the US, completing advanced titles in AHBA stock dog and field trials, three ASCA WTCH titles, and CKC HA, SDA and Intermediate titles. Recently his two Border collies have started to place in the top ten in the USBCHA Open trials and qualified for the National finals, while his three-year-old Australian Shepherd continues to accumulate points towards his CKC HX/ HC titles.

As a student of the game, clinician, and trialing enthusiast, Randy has acquired great admiration for herding breeds and those that persist in the sport. The experience and knowledge of the past fourteen years provide him with insight and awareness of the stock, environment, and techniques to be considered when preparing both dog and handler for the challenges that lie ahead. Randy believes that the pursuit of titles is not the objective but the product of one’s perseverance, patience and fortitude, for “life happens while you are pursuing titles.”

Obedience

Isobel Hutton

Isobel purchased her first dog, a happy tri sheltie named Laddie, in March, 1988.  She did this, after having two major back surgeries and realizing that she would not be able to return to work.

Laddie opened up a whole new life for Isobel.  She went on to trial him to his utility title in Canada, Bermuda and the States. She also campaigned him in 1991 to the #10 obedience dog in Canada. Unfortunately, she lost Laddie to cancer in October 2002. The same year, she lost her second sheltie Dexter also to cancer.

She presently owns two shelties, a 13 year old blue merle, and a 5 year old bi-black. Her blue boy has obedience titles in Canada, Bermuda and the States, as well as his conformation championship. Her biggest thrill was in October 2006 when her bi-black earned his Grand master obedience trial championship and also placed #2 All breed for 2006.

Isobel met Debbie Desjardine in 1989 and they became good friends and traveling companions. Their obedience trials took them to Canada, the States and Bermuda and Isobel has been teaching at Campaign since that time.

She received her judging license in May 1997, and has had the honour of receiving the 2001 Pedigree Pal Obedience judge of the year.

Any free time she has she enjoys reading, gardening and traveling with her husband.
